The Loop - Dubai’s 93-Kilometer Active Mobility Network
The Loop is one of Dubai’s most ambitious urban mobility projects, designed to transform how people move around the city. Spanning 93 kilometers, this climate-controlled network will connect residential neighborhoods with key urban centres, major parks, waterfronts, and public transport stations. It is a central element of Dubai’s vision to become a 20‑minute city, where most daily destinations can be reached within 20 minutes by walking or cycling.
A core ambition behind The Loop is a masterplan vision to make Dubai the world’s most bike-friendly city by 2040, surpassing renowned cycling capitals such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen. This vision is supported by detailed proposals for a complete cycling network across Dubai, integrating various types of cycling infrastructure. The plan serves as a blueprint for positioning Dubai as the best city for cycling, combining innovation, comfort, and accessibility on a global scale.
More than just a transportation project, The Loop will provide a comfortable, shaded, and safe environment for year‑round active mobility, even during Dubai’s hottest months. It will link directly with the city’s green corridors and public spaces, making walking and cycling an attractive alternative to driving. Along the route, landscaped areas, rest points, and public amenities will create vibrant spaces for recreation, socializing, and community events.
The Loop also plays a key role in Dubai’s environmental strategy. By reducing car dependency, it will help cut carbon emissions, improve air quality, and support healthier lifestyles. Integrated greenery and sustainable design features will help lower surrounding temperatures, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to the city’s resilience against climate change.
As part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, The Loop reflects the emirate’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and quality of life. Once completed, it will stand as one of the world’s most extensive and advanced active-mobility networks, redefining urban living in Dubai.
