The fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel is at risk following reports of new missile attacks from Iran early Tuesday morning. According to Gulf News, Israel issued public warnings and urged citizens to seek shelter after detecting missile launches from Iran. These attacks occurred shortly after 4 a.m. local time in Tehran, coinciding with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s statement that Iran would halt its attacks if Israel ceased their airstrikes.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media Monday that both nations had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire” to be phased in over 24 hours. However, the latest developments cast doubt on the viability of this agreement. In a phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran would respect the ceasefire provided Israel also adheres to its terms. He emphasized, “If the Zionist regime does not violate the ceasefire, Iran will not violate it either.”
Following a call between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel reportedly “refrained” from further strikes on Iran. Netanyahu’s office released a statement confirming this decision. President Trump expressed his desire to avoid “regime change” in Iran, stating, “I’d like to see everything calm down as quickly as possible.”
Despite these diplomatic efforts, tensions remain high. Iranian media reported that an Israeli strike killed a senior commander of Iran’s Basij paramilitary force, linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Additionally, explosions were reported in northern Iran, further complicating the situation.
The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, urging both nations to adhere to the ceasefire and prevent further escalation.
