City West is a development area north of the Frankfurt Messe Area in the Bockenheim district. The area is bordered in the south by the Theodor-Heuss-Allee street, in the west and north by the lines of the S-Bahn (regional transportation) and in the east by Kreuznacher Strasse street. City West has an area of ​​0.52 square kilometers, in which around 5,000 people live and around 18,000 jobs are available.

City West is a mixed-use development and consists mainly of new residential buildings, office properties and hotels. Most office buildings are used by insurance companies and financial service providers. The residential and commercial buildings are of a higher quality. During the conception of the City West, green zones were created between the buildings, which in the marketing of the real estate companies run according to the latest fashion under the name “Pocket Parks”. Along the southbound Theodor-Heuss-Allee there are high-rise buildings with a height of around 70 meters (230 feet) and on this side form a characteristic skyline and the visual border of City West.

The high-rise buildings along the A 661 or Theodor-Heuss-Allee include, going from west to east: Scala West, Radisson SAS, St. Martin Tower, Centurion, Theodor-Heuss-Allee 110, Cielo, Sparkassen Finanz Informatik, and the IBC.

City West was the name of an urban development project that was intended to revitalize the former Bockenheim industrial site south of the West Station (in German: Westbahnhof). The guiding principle at the time was the understanding of modern western European urban planning: the combination of work, living, green areas, and relaxation combined with a high degree of mobility.

The basis was initially an idea sketch by the architect Oswald Mathias Ungers (Messe-Torhaus, Deutsches Architektur Museum) from 1986, which was replaced in 1993 by the design planning of the architectural office Albert Speer (Union Investment High-Rise, Park Tower). In 1998 the City of Frankfurt decided on the development plan “550 Solmsstrasse / Voltastrasse”. On this basis, old industrial buildings were consequently dismantled in favor of numerous administrative buildings and high-rise buildings.

A new residential area was built in the City West and connected by tram. Numerous new commercial tenants such as American Express, Deloitte, Gerling Versicherung, Zürich-Versicherung, Novotel, Deutsche Bank, Finanz Informatik, ING Bank, Hotel Mercure or the hotel Radisson SAS moved into the newly constructed buildings. The new headquarters of the municipal energy supplier Mainova AG is now also in City West.
