Dubai Plants 300,000 Trees in Major Greening Drive

Dubai Municipality has recently completed a major greening initiative, investing AED 190 million to transform over 3 million square metres of the city with more than 300,000 trees and seedlings, as well as extensive ground cover and flowering plants. This ambitious project is a key part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan’s vision to create a greener, more sustainable city.

The planting includes native species like sidr, ghaf, and neem, combined with ornamental trees to enhance the city’s natural beauty. Significant improvements have been made at busy intersections along Al Khail Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Al Khawaneej Street.

A striking highlight of the project is the installation of vertical lighting at the intersection of Al Khail Road and Latifa bint Hamdan Street. Inspired by traditional Arab architecture, the lights change color during national celebrations, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the urban landscape.

Smart irrigation systems powered by IoT technology have been integrated throughout the project, ensuring water efficiency and sustainable maintenance over the long term.

Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stated that these efforts align with the goals of the 2040 Master Plan and aim to improve the quality of life for residents across the emirate.

By the end of the first quarter of 2025, Dubai Municipality was managing an impressive total of over 5.5 million trees and seedlings, nearly 9 million square metres of green spaces, 2 million square metres of seasonal flowers, 6.3 million square metres of ground cover, and 1.3 million linear metres of plant fencing, demonstrating the scale of Dubai’s ongoing commitment to urban greening.
